1. Welcome, Attendance, Planners
2. Students will copy down the Vocabulary Word-of-the-Day. In addition to recording the definition, students will create a graphic web of information to help them learn and remember the word: acquiesce. Review alleviate, coerce, disparage, annihilate, exacerbate, rebuke.
3. Students will review requirements for the expository research assignment on celebrity scandals and ask questions if needed.
4. Students will sign for Holt Literature textbooks to use in class today but to keep at home throughout the school year.
5. As students peruse pages 132, 133, 134, 135, 136, and 137. I will highlight literary terms and details which will be important to understanding Arthur Miller's drama, The Crucible. Students will begin reading Act One on page 141.
Homework: A clean draft of your expository research assignment is due on Thursday, December 4th. Practice logging on to the Holt website: Holt Literature online textbook login (lclay106) and password (v3s6p). Explore materials related to The Crucible.

3. Students will complete a self evaluation of the expository research assignment on celebrity scandals prior to turning in clean draft.
4. Students will be offered a graphic organizer of the characters in Act I of The Crucible. After listening to a dramatic reading of Act I, students will fill in the character chart.
5. Students will receive a packet of literary analysis activities for the four acts of The Crucible. After we read and/or watch each act of the play, students should complete the related activities. Students will be encouraged to complete any two options on the last page for extra credit.
Homework: Read/re-read Act I of The Crucible and complete characterization handout. Extra Credit options due by December 18th.

3. After watching the end of Act II of The Crucible, students will complete the graphic organizer of the conflicts introduced in Act II. Students may work in pairs and should refer to the textbook.
4. Students will compare notes on characterization and conflict from their literary analysis handouts. Students will revisit predictions made about conflicts among the characters in the rest of the play, and discuss how Arthur Miller portrayed the Puritans in Salem, Massachusetts. If we as a modern audience have no problem seeing how wrong these people were, how do we as a modern audience allow judgments to continue to be made in place of justice and law?
5. Students will review the literary device of irony and search for examples of each type in Act III with the help of the literary analysis handouts.

3. Students will review the verbs studied in this unit: alleviate, coerce, disparage, annihilate, exacerbate, rebuke, acquiesce, delineate, corroborate, peruse, and rebuke. In preparation for the test on Tuesday, students will practice with Quizlet - Landstown Clay Vocabulary Verbs with the flash cards, games, or test options.
4. Students will return to the classroom to finish our study of Act III of The Crucible.
5. Students will review the literary device of irony and search for examples of each type (verbal, situational, and dramatic) in Act III with the help of the literary analysis handouts.

2. (4B only) Students will watch the final scene of The Crucible and read the Epilogue. Students will briefly discuss their reactions to the fates of the characters in the play.
3. Using their literary analysis packets, students will take a test on The Crucible. Students will turn in literary analysis packets for The Crucible along with their tests.
4. After students finish, students may work on extra credit options or begin reading materials for Honor Code Investigation activity.
5. In small groups students will peruse handouts for Honor Code Investigation. After reading the scenario, the questions asked of each suspect, the list of suspects, as well as the student profiles, students will draw conclusions about the case. Each group will record thoughts on a large Post-it to share with the class.
Homework: Have a wonderful vacation! See you on Monday, January 5th. Don't forget about Extra Credit options.
